Becks Spake’s Research
I am an ecologist with interests in nature-based solutions and ecological synthesis. I focus principally on forest ecosystems, given their importance in tackling the climate and extinction crises. Broadly, my work tries to identify how conservation, management and restoration actions can be targeted to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem functions. This is challenging because the effects of most actions are ‘context-dependent’, hindering generalisability. But I enjoy this challenge!
Right now I’m a postdoc in the Geography and Environmental Science department at the University of Southampton, and a visiting researcher at German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv).
Outside of work I love being outdoors, Japanese literature and (vegan) roast dinners.
